José de Jesús Salazar-Torres is a biomedical engineer and clinical scientist with experience in clinical movement analysis; and statistical design, analysis, and modeling. He obtained his bachelor’s degree with honors in Biomedical Engineering from Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, Mexico and his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (Biomechanics) from Newcastle University with the project "Biomechanical Analysis of Stretch Reflex Responses: An Approach to Spasticity Measurement. He is a registered clinical scientist by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) in the U.K.

He is currently a Biomechanical Research Engineer in the Gait Analysis Laboratory at the Nemours Children's Health hospital, where he is responsible for collecting, processing, and analyzing gait and upper limb motion capture data in children with orthopedic and neurological conditions. He is the principal investigator in a project studying gait and movement patterns in cerebral palsy and acquired brain injuries. He has contributed as a co-investigator and statistician in several research projects studying gait patterns in children with cerebral palsy and arthrogryposis.

He previously managed the Gait Analysis Laboratory at Musgrave Park Hospital in Belfast, Northern Ireland (2005-2018), where he was responsible for the management, development, and delivery of the gait analysis clinical service, and he was a member of the regional gait analysis multidisciplinary team responsible for treatment decision-making in children and adults with neurological and orthopedic conditions.  His responsibilities included the delivery of lectures and training to students in Biomedical Engineering and Physiotherapy on the principles of gait and motion analysis. This allowed him to develop scientific, docent, and technical skills in statistics, motion analysis, orthopedics, and neurological rehabilitation. He was previously a Junior Research Associate at the Centre for Rehabilitation and Engineering Studies (CREST) at Newcastle University in the UK (2002-2004).

He has been awarded research grants and he has obtained external funding to improve and expand the research and clinical capabilities of the regional gait analysis laboratory in Northern Ireland (£202,000). He is a member of the editorial board of the journals ‘Gait and Posture’, and ‘Physical & Occupational Therapy in Pediatrics’. Reviewer of several journals in Engineering, Physiotherapy, Orthopedics and Neurorehabilitation. He was responsible for managing the Northern Ireland Human Movement Analysis Research Database. He was the principal Investigator in research projects exploring gait patterns in knee and hip arthroplasty and the lead investigator in a research project evaluating two different upper limb prostheses in activities of daily living. 
He was a member of the executive committee of the Musculoskeletal & Rehabilitation Translational Research Group (MRTRG) at the R&D Office, Northern Ireland; External auditor for the Clinical Movement Analysis Society – UK and Ireland (CMAS). He is interested in the assessment of arthroplasty, orthotics, prosthetics, spasticity, dystonia, and complex movement disorders.
