Abstract

The Cover Feature compares typical potential energy surface topologies of the branch space of a conical intersection (bottom left), the seam spaces of a Renner-Teller-type (middle), and a pseudo-Jahn-Teller-type tangential touching (right). Seam space is orthogonal to branch space. Typical profiles of adiabat-to-diabat angles (top) for looping paths that regularly enclose (purple), enclose and graze (green solid), do not enclose but graze (green dashed), and neither enclose nor graze (orange) the conical intersection and tangential touchings.
