Abstract

A varifocal augmented reality head‐up display (AR‐HUD) using Alvarez freeform lenses is proposed. One virtual image can be continuously adjusted between 2.5 and 7.5 m; the other is fixed at 7.5 m. Novel design enables the Alvarez lenses to have apertures larger than 15 cm and a system volume smaller than 10 L.
