Summary Municipal solid waste (MSW) has complex engineering structure, and accurate structural characterization is of great significance to the stable operation of the landfill. We propose to use the surface wave imaging method to evaluate the structure of landfill. Instead of using a geophone, DAS technology will be used to obtain active seismic data with space-intensive sampling. The obtained multi-modal dispersion curves are inverted by a global optimization algorithm to determine the shear wave velocity structure at the landfill. The imaging results indicate low-velocity layer (LVL) within a depth range of 10 m and fault below 20 m depth. The high-density electrical (HDE) method is used to detect the electrical properties of the landfill simultaneously, and the resistivity anomalies are in good agreement with the velocity structure. Indicating that using DAS surface imaging to evaluate landfill structure is feasible.
