Ischemic stroke under the age of 45 is not uncommon (± 10% of stroke victims). Overall, the most common causes of stroke are emboli of cardiac origin, arterial dissection, and migraine. Atherosclerosis is unusual. Cerebral angiography and echocardiography are indicated in all adults presenting with stroke younger than 45 years of age. Prognosis is reasonable.
