Abstract

Abstract. iPSC technology has become an invaluable tool for treating Alzheimers disease (AD). AD is a neurodegenerative disease that imposes major burden on the economy. This paper aims to summarize the hypotheses for the cause of AD, the mechanisms of iPSC technology, and the clinical applications of iPSC in AD. There are many hypotheses for the cause of AD, including Genetic mutation of genes coding for Amyloid Precursor protein (APP), presenilin 1 (PS1) and presenilin 2 (PS2), phosphorylated Tau protein, etc. There are many methods of improving the safety and efficiency of iPSC generation, including the exploration of new host cells, new transcription factors, and the incorporation of new technology like CRISPR into the generation process. iPSC modeling is a critical tool for AD treatment. iPSC is an efficient method of generating stem cells whilst also possessing less ethical concerns compared to other stem cell generation methods. iPSC modeling allows researchers to test treatment options outside of the patients body before administering the treatment method to the patient. As of current, iPSC cell therapy does not possess sufficient data for human trials. Future studies aim to develop new technologies and collect data required to launch iPSC cell therapy in clinical trials.
