Abstract Developing optical devices that allow light to propagate in only one direction, known as non-reciprocal propagation, is important for various applications. A method for optical nonreciprocity is proposed by utilizing the localized surface plasmons of random metallic nanoparticle arrays. Compared to other methods for generating optical nonreciprocity, this method exhibits the optical nonreciprocity in a wide band and is easy to be fabricated.
