The centerpiece in dubstep is sound design, where producers manipulate sound waves to get phonics that are out of this world. For example, this is one of my favorite songs recently, skip to 51s for the drop:

This is very different from other forms of music because these sounds are completely synthetic. They’re intentionally unfamiliar to us.

Compare this to someone playing the piano, or a guitar, etc. There are a limited number of notes you can play, so the genius is in the arrangement. When you listen to music with those instruments, you’re embracing for the most part the note structure and how it dances around the rhythm of the song.

What’s happening in my brain when I hear something new and I love it?

Are these sounds being processed by a different part of the brain than say a piano or a guitar?

What's the mechanics behind it?

I’d love to hear from some neuro experts on this.
