The film follows the whirlwind, "steamy" courtship between a young, under-inspired Latin tutor, Will (Paul Mescal), and Agnes Hathaway (Jessie Buckley), a woman of the woods. While Will eventually seeks his fortune in the playhouses of London, Agnes remains in Stratford, raising their children.
