In research, whatever the subject area, building your profile and being known in your field feels important, especially in the early stages of a career in science.

I'm interested to know how researchers at different stages of their career go about building their profile, and what benefits being known in your field of research brings. Some thoughts of my own to kick off:

  1. Networking at conferences helps to build collaborations, which helps to raise awareness of your research and interests.
  2. More research output helps to get your name out there.
  3. Being known in your field brings more opportunities for collaboration.
  4. Joining relevant community threads helps to network with like minded researchers.
  5. Attending seminars, lectures, and training workshops provides opportunities for networking, not just learning.
