Eligible projects should focus on research with solid rationales derived from literature review, prior bioinformatic analysis, or unexpected findings from other pilot projects. The goal is to empower creative junior researchers to take the first step on highly innovative, feasible proposals that would otherwise remain unexplored. Priority will be given to projects that clearly outline a path from bioinformatic and genomic analysis toward neuroscience or other disease-focused research applications within 6–12 months, though proposals outside these areas will also be considered. Projects are expected to meet at least one of the following criteria: Demonstrate a strong potential to generate reliable data suitable for a publication, helping the applicant secure career-transition funding for an independent academic career in translational neuroscience. Demonstrate a strong potential to generate preliminary data that could support startup initiatives aimed at improving treatment of preferentially brain disorders, thereby facilitating early-stage investment opportunities. Rationale Recent progress in genomics and bioinformatics is promising for uncovering novel insights into complex diseases and new therapeutic options. However, junior researchers often face pressure to align with their mentors’ established research areas, forcing them to abandon creative ideas in exchange for project approval. This practice severely limits their ability to explore high-risk, high-reward ideas that could lead to transformative discoveries. Although $5,000 may not fund a full-scale research project, with thorough background research and access to existing laboratory resources, a motivated PhD student or postdoctoral fellow can generate meaningful preliminary data that highlights the significance of their innovative ideas. This opportunity is intended to help junior researchers make a strategic move toward securing additional funding or investment for their future academic labs or startup ventures. Funding $5,000 in ResearchCoin (RSC) is available to support this initial iteration, which may include data collection, laboratory analysis, reporting, and personnel costs. Disclaimers and Open Science Commitment Preregistration: All selected applicants must preregister their study protocol on ResearchHub to be considered for funding. Open-Access Data Sharing: By participating, applicants agree to share all data generated through this research in an open-access repository. This ensures transparency and facilitates the scientific community’s engagement with the findings. Preprint: Researchers are encouraged to upload a preprint of their findings on ResearchHub. Progress Updates: Researchers are encouraged to share regular updates and may receive RSC tips for updates shared. Request for Proposals - Bioinformatics & Genomics Research

Objective

This funding opportunity is designed to support junior researchers pursuing innovative projects in bioinformatics and genomics that are not covered by other research grants.

Projects are expected to meet at least one of the following criteria:

Demonstrate a strong potential to generate reliable data suitable for a publication, helping the applicant secure career-transition funding for an independent academic career in translational neuroscience.
Demonstrate a strong potential to generate preliminary data that could support startup initiatives aimed at improving treatment of preferentially brain disorders, thereby facilitating early-stage investment opportunities.

Rationale

Recent progress in genomics and bioinformatics is promising for uncovering novel insights into complex diseases and new therapeutic options.

Funding

$5,000 in ResearchCoin (RSC) is available to support this initial iteration, which may include data collection, laboratory analysis, reporting, and personnel costs.

Disclaimers and Open Science Commitment

Preregistration: All selected applicants must preregister their study protocol on ResearchHub to be considered for funding.
