Heterotic Flux Attractors
Alexey Stavtsev
et al.
Jun 25, 2010
We find attractor equations describing moduli stabilization for heteroticcompactifications with generic SU(3)-structure. Complex structure and K\"ahlermoduli are treated on equal footing by using SU(3)xSU(3)-structure atintermediate steps. All independent vacuum data, including VEVs of thestabilized moduli, is encoded in a pair of generating functions that depend onfluxes alone. We work out an explicit example that illustrates our methods.

Complete Phase Diagrams for a Holographic Superconductor/Insulator System
Felix Wenger
et al.
Jul 21, 2010
The gravitational dual of an insulator/superconductor transition driven byincreasing the chemical potential has recently been constructed. However, thesystem was studied in a probe limit and only a part of the phase diagram wasobtained. We include the backreaction and construct the complete phase diagramfor this system. For fixed chemical potential there are typically two phasetransitions as the temperature is lowered. Surprisingly, for a certain range ofparameters, the system first becomes a superconductor and then becomes aninsulator as the temperature approaches zero. As a byproduct of our analysis,we also construct the gravitational dual of a Bose-Einstein condensate ofglueballs in a confining gauge theory.

The Yangian origin of the Grassmannian integral
Albert Ingold
et al.
Feb 25, 2010
In this paper we analyse formulas which reproduce different contributions toscattering amplitudes in N=4 super Yang-Mills theory through a Grassmannianintegral. Recently their Yangian invariance has been proved directly by usingthe explicit expression of the Yangian level-one generators. The specificcyclic structure of the form integrated over the Grassmannian enters in acrucial way in demonstrating the symmetry. Here we show that the Yangiansymmetry fixes this structure uniquely.

Matrix Quantum Mechanics from Qubits
Angeliki Gazi
et al.
Aug 17, 2016
We introduce a transverse field Ising model with order N^2 spins interactingvia a nonlocal quartic interaction. The model has an O(N,Z), hyperoctahedral, symmetry. We show that the large N partition function admits a saddle point inwhich the symmetry is enhanced to O(N). We further demonstrate that this`matrix saddle' correctly computes large N observables at weak and strongcoupling. The matrix saddle undergoes a continuous quantum phase transition atintermediate couplings. At the transition the matrix eigenvalue distributionbecomes disconnected. The critical excitations are described by large N matrixquantum mechanics. At the critical point, the low energy excitations are wavespropagating in an emergent 1+1 dimensional spacetime.
