We present a new construction of four dimensional $\mathcal N=3$ theories,given by M5 branes wrapping a $T^2$ in an M-theory U-fold background. Theresulting setup generalizes the one used in the usual class $\mathcal S$construction of four dimensional theories by using an extra discrete symmetryon the M5 worldvolume. Together with the M-theory U-fold description of $(0,2)$$E$-type six-dimensional SCFTs, this allows to construct new, exceptional,$\mathcal N=3$ theories.

The generic embedding of the $R+R^2$ higher curvature theory into old-minimalsupergravity leads to models with rich vacuum structure in addition to itswell-known inflationary properties. When the model enjoys an exact R-symmetry,there is an inflationary phase with a single supersymmetric Minkowski vacuum.This appears to be a special case of a more generic set-up, which in principlemay include R-symmetry violating terms which are still of pure supergravityorigin. By including the latter terms, we find new supersymmetry breaking vacuacompatible with single-field inflationary trajectories. We discuss explicitlytwo such models and we illustrate how the inflaton is driven towards thesupersymmetry breaking vacuum after the inflationary phase. In these models thegravitino mass is of the same order as the inflaton mass. Therefore, purehigher curvature supergravity may not only accommodate the proper inflatonfield, but it may also provide the appropriate hidden sector for supersymmetrybreaking after inflation has ended.

We investigate the structure of the moduli space of multiple BPS non-Abelianvortices in U(N) gauge theory with N fundamental Higgs fields, focusing ourattention on the action of the exact global (color-flavor diagonal) SU(N)symmetry on it. The moduli space of a single non-Abelian vortex, CP(N-1), isspanned by a vector in the fundamental representation of the global SU(N)symmetry. The moduli space of winding-number k vortices is instead spanned byvectors in the direct-product representation: they decompose into the sum ofirreducible representations each of which is associated with a Young tableaumade of k boxes, in a way somewhat similar to the standard group compositionrule of SU(N) multiplets. The K\"ahler potential is exactly determined in eachmoduli subspace, corresponding to an irreducible SU(N) orbit of thehighest-weight configuration.

We analyze the semileptonic $B\to K_2^*(1430)l^+l^-$ transition in universalextra dimension model. In particular, we present the sensitivity of relatedobservables such as branching ratio, polarization distribution andforward-backward asymmetry to the compactification factor (1/R) of extradimension. The obtained results from extra dimension model show overall aconsiderable deviation from the standard model predictions for small values ofthe compactification factor. This can be considered as an indication forexistence of extra dimensions.

We construct supersymmetric completions of various curvature squared terms infive dimensional supergravity with eight supercharges. Adopting the dilatonWeyl multiplet, we obtain the minimal off-shell supersymmetric Ricci scalarsquared as well as all vector multiplets coupled curvature squared invariants.Since the minimal off-shell supersymmetric Riemann tensor squared andGauss-Bonnet combination in the dilaton Weyl multiplet have been obtainedbefore, both the minimal off-shell and the vector multiplets coupled curvaturesquared invariants in the dilation Weyl multiplet are complete. We alsoconstructed an off-shell Ricci scalar squared invariant utilizing the standardWeyl multiplet. The supersymmetric Ricci scalar squared in the standard Weylmultiplet is coupled to n number of vector multiplets by construction, and itdeforms the very special geometry. We found that in the supersymmetric AdS_5vacuum, the very special geometry defined on the moduli space is modified in asimple way. Finally, we study the magnetic string and electric black holesolutions in the presence of supersymmetric Ricci scalar squared.

First order phase transitions are characterized by the nucleation andevolution of bubbles. The dynamics of cosmological vacuum bubbles, where theorder parameter is independent of other degrees of freedom, are well known;more realistic phase transitions in which the order parameter interacts withthe other constituents of the Universe is in its infancy. Here we presenthigh-resolution lattice simulations that explore the dynamics of bubbleevolution in which the order parameter is coupled to a relativistic fluid. Weuse a generic, toy potential, that can mimic physics from the GUT scale to theelectroweak scale.

General Majorana neutrino mass matrix is complex symmetric and for threegenerations of neutrinos it contains 12 real parameters. We diagonalize thisgeneral neutrino mass matrix and express the three neutrino masses, threemixing angles, one Dirac CP phase and two Majorana phases (removing threeunphysical phases) in terms of the neutrino mass matrix elements. We apply theresults in the context of a neutrino mass matrix derived from a broken cyclicsymmetry invoking type-I seesaw mechanism. Phenomenological study of the abovemass matrix allows enough parameter space to satisfy the neutrino oscillationdata with only 10% breaking of this symmetry. In this model only normal masshierarchy is allowed. In addition, the Dirac CP phase and the Majorana phasesare numerically estimated. $\Sigma m_i$ and $|m_{\nu_{ee}}|$ are alsocalculated.

We study a model with a real scalar Higgs field and a scalar triplet fieldthat allows existence of a topological defect -- a domain wall. The wall breaksthe global $O(3)$ symmetry of the model, which gives rise to non-Abelianorientational degrees of freedom. We found an exact analytic solution thatdescribes a domain wall with a localized configuration of the triplet field onit. This solution enables one to calculate contributions to the action from theorientational and translational degrees of freedom of the triplet field. Wealso study the linear stability of the domain wall with the triplet fieldswitched off. We obtain that degrees of freedom localized on the wall canappear or do not appear depending on the parameters of the model.

We consider finite deformations of the p+2-dimensional Schwarzschild geometrywhich obey the vacuum Einstein equation, preserve the mean curvature andinduced conformal metric on a sphere a distance $\lambda$ from the horizon andare regular on the future horizon. We show perturbatively that in the limit$\lambda$ approaches 0 the deformations are given by solutions of the nonlinearincompressible Navier-Stokes equation on the p-sphere. This relation provides alink between global existence for p-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokesfluids and a novel form of cosmic censorship in p+2-dimensional generalrelativity.

We extend the coupling to the topological backgrounds, recently worked outfor the 2-dimensional BF-model, to the most general Poisson sigma models. Thecoupling involves the choice of a Casimir function on the target manifold andmodifies the BRST transformations. This in turn induces a change in the BRSTcohomology of the resulting theory. The observables of the coupled theory areanalyzed and their geometrical interpretation is given. We finally couple thetheory to 2-dimensional topological gravity: this is the first step to study atopological string theory in propagation on a Poisson manifold. As anapplication, we show that the gauge-fixed vectorial supersymmetry of thePoisson sigma models has a natural explanation in terms of the theory coupledto topological gravity.
