The effect of quantum lattice fluctuations on the optical-absorption spectrain the ground state of halogen-bridged mixed-valence transition-metallinear-chain complexes is studied by using a one-dimensional extendedPeierls-Hubbard model. The nonadiabatic effects due to finite phonon frequency$\omega_{\pi}>0$ are treated through an energy-dependent electron-phononscattering function $\delta(k^{\prime},k)$ introduced by means of an unitarytransformation. The calculated optical-absorption spectra do not have theinverse-square-root singularity, but they have a peak above the gap edge andthere exists a significant tail below the peak, which are consistent with theoptical-absorption coefficient or the optical conductivity measurements of thismaterial.

We present a supersymmetric version of Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) theory innoncommutative space-time, both for Abelian and non-Abelian gauge groups. Weshow, using the superfield formalism, that the definition of a certain orderingwith respect to the * product leads naturally to a DBI action both in the U(1)as well as in the U(N) case. BPS equations are analysed in this context andproperties of the resulting theory are discussed.

We consider a generalized three-dimensional theory of gravity which isspecified by two fields, the graviton and the dilaton, and one parameter. Thistheory contains, as particular cases, three-dimensional General Relativity andthree-dimensional String Theory. Stationary black hole solutions are generatedfrom the static ones using a simple coordinate transformation. The stationaryblack holes solutions thus obtained are locally equivalent to the correspondingstatic ones, but globally distinct. The mass and angular momentum of thestationary black hole solutions are computed using an extension of the Reggeand Teitelboim formalism. The causal structure of the black holes is described.

The first order formalism for 3D Yang-Mills theory is considered and twodifferent formulations are introduced, in which the gauge theory appears to bea deformation of the topological BF theory. We perform the quantization and thealgebraic analysis of cohomology and renormalization for both the models, whichare found to be anomaly free. We discuss also their stability against radiativecorrections, giving the full structure of possible counterterms, requiring aninvolved matricial renormalization of fields and sources.

In this paper we will prove new extrinsic upper bounds for the eigenvalues ofthe Dirac operator on an isometrically immersed surface $M^2 \hookrightarrow{\Bbb R}^3$ as well as intrinsic bounds for 2-dimensional compact manifolds ofgenus zero and genus one. Moreover, we compare the different estimates of theeigenvalue of the Dirac operator for special families of metrics.

A simple model for the n p -> d pi pi reaction has been developed. It isshown that the deuteron momentum spectra measured at T_n = 795 MeV can beunderstood in terms of the Roper excitation and its N pi pi decay modes. Asimilar pattern, recently observed in p p -> p p pi+ pi-, can be explained inthe same way.

We present a single step scheme to generate, experimentally, maximallyentangled tripartite GHZ state in a single ion, using trapped ion interactingsimultaneously with a resonant external laser field and red sideband tunedquantized cavity field. Besides the simplicity of execution and short operationtime, GHZ state generation is reduction free. Pacs: 03.67.-a, 42.50.-p, 03.67.Dd
