David Warmflash, MD, is an astrobiologist, space medicine researcher, and medical educator. Recently, he has served as Co-Principal Investigator on the study "Mixed-Reality Holographic Training System to Enable High-Value Surgical and Complex Medical Procedures by Astronauts", managed by the New Jersey-based Mgenuity Corporation, with collaboration from Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU), and funded by a Phase 1 NASA Small Business Innovation Research (SBRI) grant. Dr. Warmflash also has served as Principal Investigator and Co-PI on the Living Interplanetary Flight Experiments (LIFE). Flown aboard NASA STS-107 (2003) and STS-134 (2011) and Russian (Roscosmos) Phobos-Grunt (2011) missions, in collaboration with The Planetary Society, these experiments aimed to evaluate effects of the space radiation environment on organisms representing all three domains of Earth life. 

Dr. Warmflash also has served as investigator on astronaut shoulder injuries and fingernail injuries and countermeasures research in underwater training for extravehicular activity and on immunoassay biosignature detection assay development for astrobiological applications.  In medical devices, Dr. Warmflash contributed to evaluation of a wearable non-Invasive neuromodulation device for neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders, including migraine, mood disorders, and ADHD for Neurolief Brain Innovation  (Netanya, Israel) and has served as science consultant for the Israeli Aerospace Medical Institute (IAMI). For the latter, he contributed to evaluation of medical devices that were considered for inclusion on the April 2022 Rakia orbital space mission, including a wearable cardiac monitor (CardiacSense), a universal blood cell product (RedC), and an infusion pump (IvyLife). Outside of research, Dr. Warmflash is active in medical education and CME writing in areas that include medical genetics and biotechnology (including gene therapy and vaccines), neurology, cardiology, nonmalignant hematology, immunotherapy, aerospace medicine, radiation bioeffects, endocrinology, hyperbaric medicine, medical conditions complicating pregnancy, and some areas of infectious diseases (including COVID-19).
