Pulsed discharge plasma and its application is one of the promising directions in civilian areasof pulsed power technology. In order to promote the research and development ofthe theory and application technology for pulsed discharge plasma, in thispaper, recent progress on the mechanism of nanosecond-pulse gas discharge andthe characteristics and applications of typical pulsed plasma at the Instituteof Electrical Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences is reviewed. Firstly,progress on mechanism of nanosecond-pulse discharge based on runaway electronsand measurement technology of runaway electrons is introduced. Then, thecharacteristics of three typical discharges, including direct-driven pulseddischarge, pulsed dielectric barrier discharge and pulsed plasma jet, arereviewed. Furthermore, typical plasma applications of pulsed plasma on surfacemodification and methane conversion are presented.

Abstract Polymer film capacitors experience a sharp decrease in charge–discharge efficiency and energy density under high‐temperature environments, which remains an urgent issue to address. In this article, atmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ) is used to deposit TiO 2 to improve the energy storage performance of biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film in high‐temperature environment. The APPJ uses argon as the working gas and adopts a multielectrode grounding configuration to obtain the stable jet state. The precursor solution is prepared using tetraethyl titanate (TET) mixed with ethanol in a ratio of 5:3. The results show that the charge–discharge efficiency and discharge energy density (from 3.1 to 5.7 J cm –3 ) of BOPP films deposited by APPJ are improved at 120°C.

<p>The Jiles-Atherton model has been widely used in describing the hysteretic property of a magnetic material or device. However, the calculation errors are not so easily discovered. With a complex expression, the frequency-dependent Jiles-Atherton model should be solved numerically with appropriate settings. This paper proposes an effective solving method for this model and describes some necessary analysis built on the numerical results. In the numerical method proposed in this manuscript, the anhysteretic magnetization was calculated by the secant method, and the trapezoidal rule was utilized to form the implicit function, which can be calculated by the fixed-point iteration. Compared to the other common methods, the proposed one has a friendly expression and fast computation speed. The Terfenol-D material was taken as an example for the numerical analysis. The feasible region was determined and the commonly used approximation that neglects the term of the magnetic field when calculating the magnetic induction intensity was tested. At last, the required number of sampling points per period was reached to guarantee high precision from analyzing its influence on the computation precision. The proposed numerical method is helpful for high-precision solutions of the frequency-dependent Jiles-Atherton model. The results from the numerical analysis can also help users avoid some incorrect calculations when employing this hysteresis model.</p>

High brittleness and anisotropy of ceramic matrix composites lead to great challenges for micro-hole machining. Micro-holes with large depth-to-diameter ratio (10:1) of SiCf/SiC composites were machined by rotary ultrasonic pecking drilling process. Based on the mechanical theory and structural characteristics of SiCf/SiC, a critical thrust force model was established. The effects of processing parameters on machining accuracy and machining quality of micro-hole exits were analyzed and parameters were optimized. The formation mechanism of exit defects includes interfacial debonding, fiber bending and matrix fracture. A method based on the surface morphology to inhibit exit defects by increasing the support stiffness of the material was proposed, under which the exit roundness all reached IT8 level and chipping factors decreased by 53 % to 67 %, and only a small amount of chipping and micro-cracks was at the exit. The proactive control of micro-hole exit defects was realized, and a better machining quality was obtained.
