We report the high-pressure synthesis of the electron-doped infinite-layersuperconductor Sr0.9La0.1CuO2 and its superconducting properties. A Rietveldanalysis of X-ray powder diffraction data showed that, within the resolution ofthe measurement, the sample had purely an infinite-layer structure without anydiscernible impurities. The superconducting volume fraction and the transitionwidth were greatly improved compared to those in previous reports. Theirreversibility field line and the intragranular critical current density weremuch higher than those of La1.85Sr0.15CuO4 and Nd1.85Ce0.15CuO4. The strongerpinning behaviors are consistent with the strong interlayer coupling due to theshort distance between CuO2 planes.

Scale-free networks are abundant in nature and society, describing suchdiverse systems as the world wide web, the web of human sexual contacts, or thechemical network of a cell. All models used to generate a scale-free topologyare stochastic, that is they create networks in which the nodes appear to berandomly connected to each other. Here we propose a simple model that generatesscale-free networks in a deterministic fashion. We solve exactly the model,showing that the tail of the degree distribution follows a power law.

Longitudinal and transverse voltages have been measured in zero externalmagnetic fields. In close vicinity of the superconducting transition nonzerotransverse voltage has been observed while far away from Tc, both above andbelow no such voltage has been detected. The value of the transverseresistivity depends on the value of the transport current. Several models havebeen discussed taking into account also the penetration of self field due tothe applied transport current. It seems that observed results can be explainedusing the Kosterlitz-Thouless model as a result of an unpairing ofvortex-antivortex pairs created below Tkt due to fluctuations. At Tkt freevortices and antivortices are created and can contribute to a dissipation ofenergy. Their movement should also be responsible for the observed nonzerotransverse voltage.

Experimental results for the susceptibility, specific heat, 4f occupationnumber, Hall effect and magnetoresistance for single crystals of YbAl$_{3}$show that, in addition to the Kondo energy scale $k_{B}T_{K}$ $% \sim $ 670K,there is a low temperature scale $T_{coh}<50$K for the onset of coherence.Furthermore the crossover from the low temperature Fermi liquid regime to thehigh temperature local moment regime is slower than predicted by the Andersonimpurity model. These effects may reflect the behavior of the Anderson Latticein the limit of low conduction electron density.

We present a class of exact scalar-tensor black holes for a shift-symmetricpart of the Horndeski action. The action includes a higher order scalar tensorinteraction term. We find that for a static and spherically symmetricspace-time, the scalar field, if time dependent, can be non-trivial and regularthus circumventing in an interesting way no-hair arguments for gallileons.Furthermore, within this class we find a stealth Schwarzschild and a partiallyself-tuned de-Sitter Schwarzschild black hole, both exhibiting a non trivialand regular space and time dependent scalar. In the latter solution the bulkvacuum energy is screened from a necessarily smaller geometric effective deSitter vacuum via an integration constant associated to the time dependentscalar field.

The crystal structure of the superconductor MgCxNi3 is reported as a functionof carbon concentration determined by powder neutron diffraction. Thesingle-phase perovskite structure was found in only a narrow range of carboncontent, 0.88 < x < 1.0. The superconducting transition temperature was foundto decrease systematically with decreasing carbon concentration. Theintroduction of carbon vacancies has a significant effect on the positions ofthe Ni atoms. No evidence for long range magnetic ordering was seen by neutrondiffraction for carbon stoichiometries within the perovskite phase stabilityrange.

We study the quantum effects on the Coulomb branch of N=2 SU(2)supersymmetric Yang-Mills with fundamental matters compactified on R^3 x S^1,and extract the explicit perturbative and leading non-perturbative correctionsto the moduli space metric predicted from the recent work of Gaiotto, Moore andNeitzke on wall-crossing [1]. We verify the predicted metric by computing theleading weak coupling instanton contribution to the four fermion correlationusing standard field theory techniques, and demonstrate perfect agreement. Wealso demonstrate how previously known three dimensional quantities can berecovered in appropriate small radius limit, and provide a simple geometricpicture from brane construction.

It was shown by A. Connes, M. Douglas and A. Schwarz that noncommutative toriarise naturally in consideration of toroidal compactifications of M(atrix)theory. A similar analysis of toroidal Z_{2} orbifolds leads to the algebraB_{\theta} that can be defined as a crossed product of noncommutative torus andthe group Z_{2}. Our paper is devoted to the study of projective modules overB_{\theta} (Z_{2}-equivariant projective modules over a noncommutative torus).We analyze the Morita equivalence (duality) for B_{\theta} algebras working outthe two-dimensional case in detail.
