In this paper we review the story of the BeppoSAX discovery of the Gamma RayBurst afterglow and their cosmological distance, starting from their firstdetection with Vela satellites and from the efforts done before BeppoSAX. Wealso discuss the consequences of the BeppoSAX discovery, the issues left openby BeppoSAX, the progress done up to now and its perspectives.

In this paper, we calculate the cross-section for the photoproduction ofquark-antiquark pairs in the peripheral collision of ultra-relativistic nuclei,by treating the color field of the nuclei within the Color Glass Condensatemodel. We find that this cross-section is sensitive to the saturation scale$Q_s^2$ that characterizes the model. In particular, the transverse momentumspectrum of the produced pairs could be used to measure the properties of thecolor glass condensate.
