The cross section for ${e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\psi}(2S)$ between threshold and $\sqrt{s}=5.5\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{GeV}$ is measured using $673\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{fb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ of data on and off the $\ensuremath{\Upsilon}(4S)$ resonance collected with the Belle detector at KEKB. Two resonant structures are observed in the ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\psi}(2S)$ invariant-mass distribution, one at $4361\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}9\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}9\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{MeV}/{c}^{2}$ with a width of $74\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}15\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}10\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{MeV}/{c}^{2}$, and another at $4664\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}11\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}5\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{MeV}/{c}^{2}$ with a width of $48\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}15\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}3\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{MeV}/{c}^{2}$, if the mass spectrum is parametrized with the coherent sum of two Breit-Wigner functions. These values do not match those of any of the known charmonium states.

The cross section for ${e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}J/\ensuremath{\psi}$ between 3.8 and $5.5\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{GeV}/{c}^{2}$ is measured using a $548\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{fb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ data sample collected on or near the $\ensuremath{\Upsilon}(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at KEKB. A peak near $4.25\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{GeV}/{c}^{2}$, corresponding to the so called $Y(4260)$, is observed. In addition, there is another cluster of events at around $4.05\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{GeV}/{c}^{2}$. A fit using two interfering Breit-Wigner shapes describes the data better than one that uses only the $Y(4260)$, especially for the lower-mass side of the 4.25 GeV enhancement.

We present the achievements of the last years of the experimental and theoretical groups working on hadronic cross section measurements at the low energy e+e- colliders in Beijing, Frascati, Ithaca, Novosibirsk, Stanford and Tsukuba and on tau decays. We sketch the prospects in these fields for the years to come. We emphasise the status and the precision of the Monte Carlo generators used to analyse the hadronic cross section measurements obtained as well with energy scans as with radiative return, to determine luminosities and tau decays. The radiative corrections fully or approximately implemented in the various codes and the contribution of the vacuum polarisation are discussed.

In the bottomonium sector, the hindered magnetic dipole transitions between P-wave states hb(2P)→χbJ(1P)γ, J=0, 1, 2, are expected to be severely suppressed according to the relativized quark model, due to the spin flip of the b quark. Nevertheless, a recent model following the coupled-channel approach predicts the corresponding branching fractions to be enhanced by orders of magnitude. In this Letter, we report the first search for such transitions. We find no significant signals and set upper limits at 90% confidence level on the corresponding branching fractions: B[hb(2P)→γχb0(1P)]<2.7×10−1, B[hb(2P)→γχb1(1P)]<5.4×10−3 and B[hb(2P)→γχb2(1P)]<1.3×10−2. These values help to constrain the parameters of the coupled-channel models. The results are obtained using a 121.4  fb−1 data sample taken around s=10.860  GeV with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e− collider. Published by the American Physical Society 2025
