The production of \chib1P mesons in $pp$ collisions at a centre-of-massenergy of $7\tev$ is studied using $32\invpb$ of data collected with the \lhcbdetector. The $\chib1P$ mesons are reconstructed in the decay mode $\chib1P \to\Y1S\g \to \mumu\g$. The fraction of \Y1S originating from \chib1P decays inthe \Y1S transverse momentum range $6 < \pt^{\Y1S} < 15\gevc$ and rapidityrange $2.0 < y^{\Y1S} < 4.5$ is measured to be $(20.7\pm 5.7\pm2.1^{+2.7}_{-5.4})%$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second issystematic and the last gives the range of the result due to the unknown \Y1Sand \chib1P polarizations.

The first order formalism for 3D Yang-Mills theory is considered and twodifferent formulations are introduced, in which the gauge theory appears to bea deformation of the topological BF theory. We perform the quantization and thealgebraic analysis of cohomology and renormalization for both the models, whichare found to be anomaly free. We discuss also their stability against radiativecorrections, giving the full structure of possible counterterms, requiring aninvolved matricial renormalization of fields and sources.

We investigate compactifications of M-theory from $11\to 5\to 4$ dimensionsand discuss geometrical properties of 4-d moduli fields related to thestructure of 5-d theory. We study supersymmetry breaking by compactification ofthe fifth dimension and find that an universal superpotential is generated forthe axion-dilaton superfield $S$. The resulting theory has a vacuum with$ =1$, zero cosmological constant and a gravitino mass depending on the fifthradius as $m_{3/2} \sim R_5^{-2}/M_{Pl}$. We discuss phenomenological aspectsof this scenario, mainly the string unification and the decompactificationproblem.

We study the coisotropic subgroup structure of standard SL_q(2,R) and thecorresponding embeddable quantum homogeneous spaces. While the subgroups S^1and R_+ survive undeformed in the quantization as coalgebras, we show that R isdeformed to a family of quantum coisotropic subgroups whose coalgebra can notbe extended to an Hopf algebra. We explicitly describe the quantum homogeneousspaces and their double cosets.

We study the D-brane spectrum on a two-parameter Calabi-Yau model. Theanalysis is based on different tools in distinct regions of the moduli space:wrapped brane configurations on elliptic fibrations near the large radiuslimit, and SCFT boundary states at the Gepner point. We develop an explicitcorrespondence between these two classes of objects, suggesting that boundarystates are natural quantum generalizations of bundles. We also find interestingD-brane dynamics in deep stringy regimes. The most striking example is,perhaps, that nonsupersymmetric D6-D0 and D4-D2 large radius configurationsbecome stable BPS states at the Gepner point.

There are two families of non-BPS bi-spinors in the perturbative spectrum ofthe nine dimensional heterotic string charged under the gauge group$SO(16)\times SO(16)$. The relation between these perturbative non-BPS statesand certain non-perturbative non-BPS D-brane states of the dual type I$^\prime$theory is exhibited. The relevant branes include a $\Zop_2$ charged non-BPSD-string, and a bound state of such a D-string with a fundamental string. Thedomains of stability of these states as well as their decay products in boththeories are determined and shown to agree with the duality map.

In this paper, we propose a connection between the field theory local model(Katz-Vafa field theory) and the type of singular fibre in flat crepantresolutions of elliptic Calabi-Yau fourfolds, a class of fourfolds consideredby Esole and Yau. We review the analysis of degenerate fibres for models withgauge groups SU(5) and SO(10) in detail, and observe that the naively expectedfibre type is realized if and only if the Higgs vev in the field theory localmodel is unramified. To test this idea, we implement a linear (unramified)Higgs vev for the `E6' Yukawa point in a model with gauge group SU(5) andverify that this indeed leads to a fibre of Kodaira type IV*. Based on thisobservation, we argue i) that the singular fibre types appearing in thefourfolds studied by Esole-Yau are not puzzling at all, (so that this class offourfolds does not have to be excluded from the candidate of input data of someyet-unknown formulation of F-theory) and ii) that such fourfold geometries alsocontain more information than just the eigenvalues of the Higgs field vevconfiguration in the field theory local models.

Plabic graphs are intimately connected to the positroid stratification of thepositive Grassmannian. The duals to these graphs are quivers, and it ispossible to associate to them cluster algebras. For the top-cell graph of$Gr_{+}(k,n)$, this cluster algebra is the homogeneous coordinate ring of thecorresponding positroid variety. We prove that the same statement holds forplabic graphs describing lower dimensional cells. In this way we obtain a mapfrom the positroid strata onto cluster subalgebras of $Gr_{+}(k,n)$. We exploresome of the consequences of this map for tree-level scattering amplitudes in$\mathcal N=4$ super Yang-Mills theory.

We propose a brane-world setup based on gauge/gravity duality in which thefour-dimensional cosmological constant is set to zero by a dynamicalself-adjustment mechanism. The bulk contains Einstein gravity and a scalarfield. We study holographic RG flow solutions, with the standard model braneseparating an infinite volume UV region and an IR region of finite volume. Forgeneric values of the brane vacuum energy, regular solutions exist such thatthe four-dimensional brane is flat. Its position in the bulk is determineddynamically by the junction conditions. Analysis of linear fluctuations showsthat a regime of 4-dimensional gravity is possible at large distances, due tothe presence of an induced gravity term. The graviton acquires an effectivemass, and a five-dimensional regime may exist at large and/or small scales. Weshow that, for a broad choice of potentials, flat-brane solutions aremanifestly stable and free of ghosts. We compute the scalar contribution to theforce between brane-localized sources and show that, in certain models, thevDVZ discontinuity is absent and the effective interaction at short distancesis mediated by two transverse graviton helicities.
