My research addresses fundamental questions about the role of nonverbal behavior in communicating social rank, personality, and emotion. I leverage a variety of methods, including structured group interactions, human-robot interactions, experiments, and longitudinal designs, while relying on multiple measurement and analytical techniques including automated and manual nonverbal behavioral coding, peer-reports, machine learning, lens modeling, and psychophysiology. To enhance the generalizability of my research findings, I conduct research around the globe and across age groups, including recruiting participants from six continents, adults from non-Western and small-scale traditional societies, and children as young as two years old.
